FAQs eligibility criteria

My organisation is running a carers project is it eligible for funding?

If your organisation’s primary purpose is to support unpaid carers or the rehabilitation of offenders or ex-offenders you may apply.  Organisations providing this support as a project and have a wider remit beyond supporting solely unpaid carers or offenders and ex-offenders are NOT eligible to apply.

Our primary focus is not carers or offenders, but we could ring-fence the grant so it is only used for this purpose.  Can we still apply?

No.  The Development Grant is aimed at strengthening an organisation as a whole rather than just one specific project.  The grants can be used to cover core costs so if your organisation was awarded a grant we would be supporting beneficiaries outside of our priorities.

We have already had a Triangle Trust Grant are we eligible to apply for further funding?

Yes. You may apply for another Triangle Trust grant after your current grant comes to an end.

My organisation provides support to substance misusers, many of whom are ex-offenders, are we eligible to apply for funding?

No. You may only apply for a Development Grant if your organisation's primary purpose is to support unpaid carers or the rehabilitation of offenders. If your organisation has a wider remit than this, even though it is also helping the sectors identified, you are NOT eligible to apply.

We are a new organisation without our first years accounts, are we eligible to apply and what figure should we submit with our application?

Yes. You should submit your most recent set of management accounts along with your forecast income and expenditure.  Additionally, send us an email to explain your situation so that we know why the full set of accounts has not been submitted.

Our previous application was unsuccessful, can we apply again?

Yes, but you must wait 2 years before re-applying for a grant so if you applied in the 2018 round of applications you must wait until the 2020 application round before you can apply again. In our experience this is the length of time it takes for an organisation to change sufficiently to be able to submit a successful application.

We don’t directly support the rehabilitation of offenders by offering services but we carry out research, are we still eligible to apply for a grant?

Yes. Organisations involved in research, policy and campaign work relevant to unpaid carers and the rehabilitation of offenders may apply for a Development Grant.

Do you fund Community Interest Companies (CICs) and Social Enterprise Organisations?

Yes. Community interest companies and social enterprise organisations must have a governing document which shows the name, aim/purpose, objects of the group, including a dissolution clause - what happens if your group ceases to function. This clause should show that you are a not-for-profit group by confirming that any assets remaining after all debts are paid will be given to another voluntary group with similar aims. This document should also include details of your Trustees or management committee.

My organisation is based in Northern Ireland, can we apply for funding?

Yes. All organisations based and operating within the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland are eligible to apply for a Development Grant.
